The river is the climax of a hand in Texas Hold’em. All the cards are on the table, three rounds of betting has happened; everything comes down to the final round of betting. The river, sometimes called fifth street, is where everything in the hand finally comes to an end and a winner is declared, provided someone has not won already. Often times, the river is where a player has to make the decision to fold because they did not make their hand and they know they are beaten. The river is also sometimes the place where some of the greatest bluffs take place. Making a bluff on the river is a huge play that can lead to ruinous disaster, or unending glory depending on the result. Many players debate about how to play the river because it is such a unique position but, however you decide to play it, know its importance.
